Portishead plans to become a pollinator town

Portishead has agreed to be a Pollinator Friendly Town and signed up to the Pollinator Pledge. It has committed to assisting in creating networks of people and habitats that supports pollinator insect species throughout the town. It aims to team up with schools, nurseries, businesses and local groups to promote the key objectives:
*encourage the growth of bee-friendly flowers, shrubs and trees
*the creation and protection of meadows, orchards and other wildflower rich habitats
*reducing cutting of grassy verges and areas
*identifying natural/semi-natural land to allow more wildflowers to flourish*protection of nests and hibernation spots
*reduce pesticide use

I'm so happy that my home town is on board with this pledge. We need to protect our pollinators locally before you think nationally. If more towns embraced the Pollinator Pledge, you could reverse local population declines of many pollinator species.
